1. What is Smart Simulation?

Smart Simulation is a Cyber Coach feature that enriches the automation of phishing simulations. It automatically generates personalized and contextualized simulation campaigns for each user, in addition to the campaigns already provided by standard automation.

💡 Requirements: Smart Simulation can only be enabled if automation is enabled for the relevant customer. The feature is disabled by default for all existing customers.

1.1 How does Smart Simulation work?

Once activated, Smart Simulation generates additional campaigns starting the month following activation. The content of the campaigns is customised based on available data:

  • Without Protect: Campaigns are customised according to the client’s industry.

  • With Protect, if the user has given consent: incoming emails analyzed by Protect are used to generate simulations based on the brands and senders the user actually receives.

Compared to standard automation, Smart Simulation offers:

Standard Automation

With Smart Simulation

Campaigns per month

1 maximum

Up to 5

Imitated brands

Predefined library

Unlimited, customized by user

Templates

Common to all

Specific to each user

In this initial version, Smart Simulation generates only ransomware campaigns.

📌 Smart Simulation uses the same domain names as other campaigns: no additional whitelisting is required.

Simulation Contextualization Levels

Simulations are generated according to 5 levels of customization (not visible to the customer):

Level

Source

What it simulates

🟢 L1 Generic

Brands seen by thousands of users

Stripe, SFR, Orange invoices…

🟡 L2 Industry

Common brands within the same industry

Widespread business software in finance, healthcare…

🟠 L3 Company

Brands seen by ≥100 colleagues

Internal tools, common company vendors

🔴 L4 Personal

Recurring senders specific to the user

Their payroll provider, insurance company, monthly SaaS subscription

🔴 L5 Recent

Active senders over the last 3 months

What they’re currently receiving

👉 Levels L3, L4, and L5 require that the customer have both Cyber Coach and Protect, and that they have given their consent. Consent pertains to the use of a user’s emails: a user who has given consent gains access to levels L4 and L5 if their email volume allows it, and their emails contribute to the L3 scenarios received by their colleagues. A user who has not given consent will never have their emails analyzed and can receive simulations up to Level L3 only.

1.2 Enabling Smart Simulation

At the customer account level

You can enable Smart Simulation for the entire account from two locations:

From the automation settings:

From the Cyber Coach Home page, using the “Activate Smart Simulation” button:

There are two possible scenarios when you click this button:

  • Automation is already enabled → Smart Simulation is enabled immediately, and a confirmation message appears.

  • Automation is not yet enabled → the user is redirected to the automation activation process. Smart Simulation will be automatically enabled once this process is complete.

At the user group level

You can enable or disable Smart Simulation for a specific group from that group’s management page.

At the user level

You can enable or disable Smart Simulation for a specific user from that user's profile. You can also disable automation for that user from this page.

Cascading Behavior

Smart Simulation is activated according to a hierarchical logic:

  • Smart Simulation is deactivated by default for each client.

  • Activating it at the client level automatically activates it for all automation groups, and then for all users in those groups.

For a user to receive Smart Simulation campaigns, the following three conditions must be met:

  • Smart Simulation is enabled at the client level

  • Smart Simulation is enabled for at least one group to which the user belongs

  • Smart Simulation is enabled for that user

Check that Smart Simulation is enabled

When Smart Simulation is enabled, a visual indicator appears directly on the Automation dashboard.

1.3 Disable Smart Simulation

  • Upon activation: Users receive their first simulation the month following activation.

  • Upon deactivation: As soon as Smart Simulation is disabled (at the client or user level), no new Smart Simulation campaigns are sent.
