Secure Link is a proprietary technology from Mailinblack that analyzes a link at the moment it is clicked. It then warns the user if the link is found to be dangerous.

What are the prerequisites for using Secure Link?

  • Your email address must be protected

  • Secure Link must be activated: for you, for everyone, or for your group

Which emails are protected by Secure Link?

  • The email must be valid: it can be valid directly or have been retrieved

  • The email must contain a link

How does Secure Link work in practice?

When a valid email contains a link, it is rewritten by Secure Link. The purpose is that when you click on the link, a verification can be performed on it.

Secure Link then queries its system to determine the level of danger of the link it is directing you to.

More specifically :

When an email with a link is sent, passing through Mailinblack and being released, the link is rewritten to point to the Mailinblack platform with a series of letters and numbers—this is the key that allows the link to be analyzed.

When the user clicks on the link, a request is sent to Secure Link so it can query its analysis system on a dedicated server.

At this point, an analysis page will appear in the browser:

When the analysis system completes the verification, it sends its response to Secure Link so it can indicate the appropriate response to the user.

What are the possible outcomes?

If the link is not deemed dangerous, you will be directly redirected to the site you intended to visit.

It is possible that the link cannot be verified, which can be due to two reasons:

  • The system encounters an unavailability that makes link verification impossible.

  • There was an error in rewriting the link, making it unusable for content analysis.

If the link is detected as dangerous, a page will appear alerting you that it is potentially dangerous. It is recommended not to continue navigating.

Can I still access the link?

If you wish to access the site despite the risk, you can decide to proceed by clicking on Details and then I want to visit this site.

Similarly, for links that could not be analyzed, you just need to check I understand and then click on Proceed to navigate.

What are the different reasons for blocking?

  • The website indicated by the link has been identified as a malware-distributing site

These sites may contain viruses, worms, spyware, or trojans, which can damage your data and equipment.

  • The website indicated by the link has been identified as a phishing site

These sites entice you to disclose your personal information, sometimes unknowingly.

  • The website indicated by the link has been identified as a spam-distributing site

These sites capture your data and email addresses to send you unsolicited emails later.

  • The website indicated by the link has been identified as associated with the distribution of potentially unwanted applications.

These applications have components or behaviors often considered undesirable by users. This can include, for example, the installation of search bars or other unwanted tools.
